8th ITS Summit Singapore 2026

28 July 2026 · One Farrer Hotel, Singapore · Theme: Safe and Secure Intelligent Mobility

Executive Summary

ITS Malaysia joined regional counterparts at the 8th ITS Summit Singapore 2026, organised by the Intelligent Transportation Society of Singapore (ITS Singapore) at One Farrer Hotel. Held under the theme Safe and Secure Intelligent Mobility, the one-day summit brought together transport authorities, operators, technology providers and academia to examine how intelligent transport can be made both safer and more resilient.

The summit was opened by Guest-of-Honour Ms Sun Xueling, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Transport, followed by panel sessions on road safety, data-driven traffic management, and the security of connected and autonomous systems.

ITS Malaysia Representation

  • ITS Malaysia was represented by President YBhg. Dato' Sri Ir. Hj. Ismail bin Md. Salleh and Treasurer General Ir. Lee Choy Hin.
  • The delegation held bilateral discussions with ITS Singapore and other Asia-Pacific member associations on the sidelines of the summit.
  • Engagements reinforced ASEAN-level cooperation ahead of the 32nd ITS World Congress in Gangneung, South Korea.

Highlights from the Opening Address

  • Singapore recorded 149 traffic fatalities in 2025, a ten-year high, prompting a renewed national push on road safety.
  • A new Road Safety Framework was outlined, built on safer road users, safer vehicles, safer speeds and safer road design, underpinned by data, technology and research.
  • Silver Zone traffic-calming schemes have cut accidents involving elderly pedestrians by roughly 80 per cent.
  • Autonomous shuttle trials in Punggol, which began in September 2025, have carried close to 10,000 riders with high reported confidence in safety.
  • An upcoming AV Act and cybersecurity framework will govern the protection of connected transport systems across their lifecycle.

Panel Session 1

The opening panel examined how safety outcomes can be improved through analytics, enforcement technology and network-level visibility.

  • Moderator: Mohit Sindhwani, ITSS Councillor and Chief Technology Officer, Quantum Inventions
  • Dr Raymond Ong, Vice-Chair, Singapore Road Safety Council and Associate Professor, National University of Singapore
  • Tom Kjaer-Olsen, Mining & Transport Lead, APJC, Cisco
  • Harper Zhao, Overseas Traffic Solution Expert, Hikvision
  • Lim Shu Hui, Director, Analytics & Data Collection, TTS Group

Takeaways for Malaysia

  • Road safety outcomes improve fastest when infrastructure design, enforcement and data are treated as one programme rather than separate projects.
  • Cybersecurity for connected and autonomous vehicles needs a legislative and standards baseline before large-scale deployment, not after.
  • Regional summits remain an efficient channel for ITS Malaysia members to benchmark deployments and build vendor and agency relationships.
